Short answer

Windows 11 can run the installer, but the phone decides compatibility

Samsung's redirect currently returns SamsungDeXSetupWin.exe, a 99,866,280-byte Windows installer. Windows 11 meets the PC operating-system requirement, yet Samsung no longer supports DeX for PC on Galaxy devices released with or updated to One UI 7 or later. A compatible phone on One UI 6.1 or earlier is the safer legacy-use case.

Samsung DeX download Windows 11 requirements

Start on the Galaxy phone. Open Settings, choose About phone, then Software information, and read the One UI version. If it shows One UI 7 or a later release, installing the Windows application will not restore DeX for PC support. Samsung directs newer PC-integration use cases toward Link to Windows instead.

Next, confirm that the phone model supports the DeX mode you want. DeX availability is not universal across every Galaxy A, S, Z, Note, and tablet model. A phone that lacks DeX hardware or firmware support cannot gain the feature from a Windows installer, USB driver, or downloaded APK.

Finally, use a USB cable that carries data. Many inexpensive or accessory charging cables provide power only. A charge-only cable can make Windows show that the phone is charging while the DeX application never detects it.

  • Windows 11 is updated and you can install normal desktop software.
  • The Galaxy device is on One UI 6.1 or earlier for the legacy PC-app workflow.
  • The phone model appears in Samsung's compatible-device information.
  • The USB cable and PC port support data, not charging only.
  • You can unlock the phone and approve the first DeX connection prompt.

How to install Samsung DeX on Windows 11

Use Samsung's redirect rather than a software mirror. The redirect allows Samsung to change the final Download Center location without requiring this guide to guess a permanent CDN file. After the countdown on SamsungDex.wiki, the browser should leave this site and request the installer from Samsung.

Windows may show a security confirmation before running the setup file. Confirm that the file is named SamsungDeXSetupWin.exe and that it came from Samsung's download domain. Complete the installer, then restart the DeX application if Windows asks for device components to finish loading.

  1. 1

    Download the official installer

Use the button above and wait for Samsung's redirect to return the Windows setup file.

  2. 2

    Run setup

Open SamsungDeXSetupWin.exe, review the Windows prompt, and complete the installation wizard.

  3. 3

    Open Samsung DeX

Launch the desktop application before attaching the phone for the first time.

  4. 4

    Connect and unlock the phone

Use a data-capable USB cable, unlock the screen, and approve the DeX request on the phone.

  5. 5

    Verify the DeX window

A successful connection opens the phone desktop in a resizable Windows 11 window.

What the Windows installer does and does not do

DeX for PC is a Windows companion application. It provides a window where a compatible phone can present its DeX desktop, and it handles the USB or supported wireless session between the two devices. The applications and files shown in DeX still come from the phone.

The installer does not add DeX to an unsupported Galaxy model, downgrade One UI, unlock hidden desktop features, or turn an ordinary Android phone into a Samsung device. It also is not the package used for a phone-to-monitor setup. When a compatible phone connects directly to a monitor, DeX runs from the phone and no Windows software is involved.

Avoid pages that describe a portable DeX build, mod APK, Windows 7 patch, or driver bundle as a way to bypass device compatibility. Those files are not the verified Samsung installer path used here.

Fix Windows 11 connection problems after installation

If the application opens but does not see the phone, work from the support boundary outward. First confirm One UI. Then change the USB cable and physical port, because detection failures are more often caused by compatibility, cable capability, permissions, or a damaged connector than by the DeX interface itself.

Unlock the phone before connecting it and watch for a permission prompt. If Windows only charges the device, open the phone's USB notification and choose a data-capable mode when available. Disconnect USB hubs during diagnosis and attach the phone directly to the computer. Corporate security software, restricted USB policies, and virtual-machine sessions can also prevent the connection.

Samsung USB drivers may help when Windows Device Manager shows an unknown or failed mobile device. Install drivers only from Samsung's support channel, reconnect the phone, and avoid mixing several third-party driver packages. If the phone uses One UI 7 or later, driver changes will not reverse Samsung's DeX for PC support decision.

Better options for a new Galaxy phone

For PC notifications, calls, messages, photos, file access, and supported mobile apps, Link to Windows is the current Windows-oriented alternative. It does not recreate the complete DeX desktop in the same way, but it aligns with Samsung's official guidance for newer Galaxy software.

For a full desktop workspace powered by the phone, connect a supported Galaxy model directly to a monitor using USB-C DisplayPort, an appropriate USB-C hub, or HDMI adapter. Wireless DeX can also work with a compatible Miracast display. Those modes should be evaluated separately from the retired PC-app workflow.

Samsung DeX download Windows 11 FAQ

Is Samsung DeX compatible with Windows 11?

The Windows installer can run on Windows 11, but phone compatibility is separate. Samsung says DeX for PC is not supported on Galaxy devices released with or updated to One UI 7 or later.

Where is the official Samsung DeX download Windows 11 link?

Samsung maintains a global Windows download redirect at samsung.com/global/download/SamsungDeXWin/. It currently returns SamsungDeXSetupWin.exe from the Samsung Download Center.

Can I use DeX for PC wirelessly on Windows 11?

Some legacy compatible devices supported a wireless PC connection, but support depends on the phone and software. Do not confuse that feature with Wireless DeX to a Miracast TV or monitor.

Why does Windows 11 charge my phone but not open DeX?

Check One UI support first, then try a known data cable, another USB port, an unlocked phone, the connection permission, and Samsung's official USB driver. Charge-only cables cannot carry the DeX session.

Does Windows 11 need a Samsung DeX driver?

The DeX installer normally handles its required components, but a Samsung USB driver can help when Windows does not recognize the mobile device. It cannot add DeX for PC support to One UI 7 or later.

Can I install an older DeX version for a new phone?

An older application does not change the phone-side support policy. Installing archived builds can also introduce security and stability risks, so use the current Samsung redirect or a supported alternative.
